About Our Blog

On Solid Ground is designed to explore how the evolving landscape of real estate, environmental and construction law in Massachusetts affects the communities in which we live.

Henry David Thoreau (somewhat) famously said, “I have traveled widely in Concord.”  His statement is something of an oxymoron:  how can one travel widely in a small town?   The answer of course is that unlike many of the people in his time or ours, Thoreau had an in-depth knowledge of his community.

Similarly, we have a comprehensive knowledge of the MetroWest and Central Massachusetts region in which we and many of our clients live and work.  Our hope is to use this Blog to better connect with our clients and our communities about issues affecting the built and natural environment.

Mirick O’Connell began 100 years ago in 1916.  Originally based in Worcester, we also have offices in Westborough and Boston.  With nearly a third of the Firm’s attorneys in Westborough, we recognize the importance of the Interstate 495 / MetroWest region to the local, state and even national economy.   Closer to home, our local communities of Westborough, Marlborough, Northborough and Southborough, comprise a distinct economic area with unique development challenges and opportunities.

At Mirick O’Connell, we refer to these local communities as the “Boroughs+.”  It is to this Boroughs+ region that we will devote a significant amount of electronic ink.
